Minister’s Conference
Dr. Michael O. Oyedokun II, Minister’s Conference Chair
Dr. Joseph C. Parker, Esq., Vice Chair
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:16-20
Ministers Conference
The goal of the Minister’s Conference is to support the vision of the Association by exposing pastors/preachers to training and discussions that will prayerfully assist them in their ministry. Throughout the Association Year there will be focus on different topics in which we can grow spiritually and become more effective in our calling as proclaimers of the Gospel. Some of the immediate topics that possibly will be discussed through the next year will be:
Pastoral Leadership (And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up
into the mount of God. Exodus 24:13)
– Moses and Joshua Conversation: proposed panel discussion with Rev. A.W. Mays and Rev. DeChard Freeman with Michael Oyedokun II as the facilitator. This conference will be to gain insight on the relationship of cross generational preachers. To discuss variables of ministry that include developing and cultivating different styles of ministry. (FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30 – SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1ST, 2018). This workshop will be held at the East 19th Street Baptist Church in Austin, TX.
Exposing the Text (Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 1 Corinthians 2:12-13)
– Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert and Rev. Michael O. Oyedokun II. To have conference on expository sermon preparation (take me to your office, tools for biblical exegesis, insight on expository sermon development) – (MARCH 2019)
Preaching to Post Moderns and Millennials – Churched and Unchurched (I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. 15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. Romans 1:14-15)
– To discuss the challenges and differences of preaching to Post Moderns and Millennials. How do we keep the churched as the church and how do we preach to those who are running from the church? (JUNE 2019)
Preaching through a Storm (Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 2 Timothy 4:2)
– Rev. Delbert Mack: To discuss how to (1) avoid storms; (2) preach and pastor through storms; (3) heal from storms. (AUGUST 2019)
The goal will be to hold mini-conferences each quarter. The format can be panel, facilitator and/or a working hands-on format. We will have the (4) individual workshops at different churches throughout the association.
